Bella Roma!!

We left Sorrento on Tuesday morning and travelled to Rome.  It was a beautiful morning in Sorrento but it was rain8ng by the time we got to Rome.  We met our guide, Stuart, at 2 pm, outside of the Colosseum.  We donned our rain gear and headed out for our tour.  We spent an hour seeing and hearing about the inside of the Colosseum.  We were under cover for a good part of it but still managed to get quite wet during our visit.  It was very busy because there are lots of student tours happening right now.  I can’t imagine what a zoo it would be in the summer!!

Once we finished our Colosseum tour we all agreed that we were cold and wet enough, so we opted to finish our tour on the bus.  We spent an hour driving past many of the important sites in the historic part of Rome.  It is absolutely amazing and impossible to see everything in just a few days.

We checked into our hotel at 4:30 and had enough time to dry out, change and relax a bit before heading out for dinner.  Our dinner was an optional excursion called “Dinner with the Tenors”.  We went to the restaurant by bus and arrived at 7 pm.  It was fun to watch the crazy Rome drivers from the bus, especially the scooter riders.

When we arrived at the restaurant they had our appetizer of meat and salad waiting for us.  As we ate, three opera singers entertained us.  It was interesting to watch the faces of some of the people in our group, as many of us are not opera fans.  We were starting to think it was going to be a long evening!!

Luckily, the scene changed and they began to involve the audience and make the performance very funny and entertaining!  Our guys were all treated to some “special” attention from one of the female singers.  Then I got pulled onto the stage to partake in a bit of singing and dancing, it was a blast!! The meal was phenomenal.  Aside from the appetizer, they served us risotto, then a course of pasta, then the main course of pork, spinach and potatoes, followed by Tiramisu for dessert.  Of course, it was all accompanied by endless bottles of wine!!! In the end, everyone has a great time!!

We actually woke up this morning to sunshine and blue skies!!  We hardly knew what to do with that!!  We set off on a walking tour this morning, stopping at the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Piazza Navona.  We took a break for lunch at the Pantheon and we were all thrilled to sit at an outdoor cafe, in the sunshine!!!

From the Piazza Navona, the group got on the bus to head over to the Vatican.  They were booked for an afternoon tour of the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Cathedral with our guide, Stuart.  Since I have visited the Vatican many times, I chose to pass on this excursion.  I enjoyed some time in the Piazza Navona before leisurely walking back to the hotel.

This evening we will have our farewell dinner before packing to go home.  We will leave for the airport at 6 am and get home Thursday evening, due to the time change.

It has been an amazing tour.  The weather certainly could have been better but we were thankful for some of the good luck that we did have at times.  We had a fantastic group, fantastic tour director and bus driver.  We saw and did so many things.  Now we will all need some time to go through our pictures and absorb what we all saw and experienced.

Thanks for reading this blog and enjoying our experience along with us!!  If you want to know about my upcoming tours, send me an email at:  chicosan@sasktel.net
