Perugia
We woke up to fog and clouds rolling through the valley. We didn’t leave until 9:30 and we drove about 40 minutes to Perugia, another spectacular hilltop town. We were all prepared for a walk in the rain but it didn’t rain on us! Hallelujah!! We began our guided tour in the lower level where ancient Perugia once existed. It was an incredible maze of narrow, winding streets and alleyways. We then rode up about five escalators to take us up to today’s town of Perugia. We visited the Cathedral and the Collegio del Cambio, which is Home to a historic bank that is filled with beautiful frescoes.
We had lunch in a lovely restaurant where we were treated to local specialties and their own brand of wine. We then had a couple of hours of free time for exploring and shopping. Perugia is homemto Bacci chocolates, so almost everyone came back with some of that.
We got back to the hotel by 4:30 and had some time to relax. We regrouped at 6:00 to have a beer together and a toast to Saint Patrick’s Day. We also had cake and sang “Happy Birthday” to Gary P. We all dined at the hotel restaurant for dinner and called it a night. Wifi is weak at this hotel so I will try to post pictures of Perugia from our next hotel.
Ciao.
